Developer caches

If you write code, or ever installed a developer tool, your Mac is probably holding several gigabytes of downloads it can fetch again in seconds.

What Roomy recognizes

  • npm, pnpm, Yarn and Bun package caches
  • Homebrew downloads
  • Xcode DerivedData and SwiftUI previews
  • CocoaPods, Gradle, Cargo, Go and Dart caches
  • pip, uv and Poetry caches
  • Browsers downloaded by Playwright and Puppeteer

What happens automatically

With Autopilot on, developer caches are cleared once they grow past 1 GB. Xcode’s DerivedData is skipped while Xcode is open. Everything rebuilds on the next install or build.

What Roomy asks about first

  • node_modules and Python virtualenvs in projects you haven’t touched for 30 days
  • Git worktrees created by coding agents, which can hold uncommitted work
  • Docker’s disk image, which contains your images and volumes
