1. Roomy
  2. Features
  3. Low-space rescue

Roomy steps in before your Mac fills up.

A nearly full disk slows your Mac down and blocks updates. When free space runs low, Roomy doesn’t wait for the daily tidy-up.

When it kicks in

Roomy checks your free space regularly. If it drops below 10% of your disk, Roomy runs a cleanup right away and sends you a notification with the result.

To avoid working in circles, a rescue runs at most once every few hours.

A wider net

During a rescue Roomy relaxes its usual waiting periods, still within the same safe categories:

  • Trash older than 7 days instead of 30
  • Installers older than a day instead of a week
  • Developer caches over 50 MB instead of 1 GB

Why free space matters

macOS uses free disk space for virtual memory, app updates and system updates. When it runs out, apps slow down and updates fail to install. Keeping some room free is one of the simplest ways to keep a Mac feeling fast.
